During this time of year, the world turns toward Jesus Christ and celebrates his birth. Reading the Come Follow Me curriculum this week it challenges readers to write down their feelings about Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world.
My first impression is that I feel like my testimony and faith are weaker than they have been in the past. However, I do thrive on the hope that Jesus Christ helps me to overcome the wrongs I have done in my life.
Throughout my life, I have peace, joy, and tranquility by following the commandments he has given to the world through his teachings from the prophets.
I have found happiness in following the Savior and I believe that happiness is the goal of this existence. When I say happiness it encompasses all of the ideas embodied in happiness, joy, peace, tranquility, and I would include love in that group. However, I also believe more words could be included in the definition of happiness.
I find it interesting that so many other philosophies come to the conclusion that happiness is what everyone seeks and this really is essentially the goal for everyone.
I believe that following Jesus will bring that happiness everyone seeks. I believe this because I have felt happiness through my feeble attempts to follow him. I watch, ready and study other people and what they are trying to do to bring happiness to their lives. This helps build my testimony that following the teachings of Jesus Christ will bring happiness.
One of the biggest things that many of these other philosophies point out is that helping others, caring for others and sacrificing for others is one of the best ways to bring happiness. I know this is a main focus of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I would say to all people. Seek happiness, because I believe this is the goal everyone already has. I also believe that everyone should experiment by following the teachings of Jesus Christ to see how these philosophies can bring happiness to our lives.
I also acknowledge one of the great things about life is we have the freedom to experiment with any philosophy. If you feel you need to explore something you believe will bring you happiness, study it out. See if others have tried the path you want to try and see what their outcomes have been. If their outcomes are not what you want, check out other philosophies. Maybe you will call me lazy, but it seems to me that following the teachings and commandments seem to be a safe way to happiness.
